Ms. Courtney L. Black, Co-Founder & Artistic Director
Courtney L. Black is a Cleveland-born poetess, ecologist, and international multidisciplinary artist. Her background in Cultural Anthropology & Sociology, Theater, and Media serves as the foundation of the House, and fuels her passion for connecting people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
The American Folklore Society, Association for Art History, Assembly for the Arts, Columbia Law School, Fernland Studios, GrubStreet’s Boston Writers of Color, and the National Social Science Association have all supported her creative ventures. A Hoodoo and self-described transcendentalist, Ms. Black proactively uses her pen and body as agents for social change and true community renewal.
Her ongoing work includes readings from her poetry collection ANIMALIA (2020) and her work as Artistic Director of Sankofa Sol Arts Inquiry Collective (SSAIC) and the award-winning project, The Nanny Project, alongside other interdisciplinary projects. She is also the Founder of Le Chat Noir Productions. You Can’t Overlove Anything is Le Chat Noir’s first live theatrical creation.
Ms. Black divides her time between her hometown of Cleveland (where she is the Artistic Director of Lillie B’s House) and wherever her spirit leads her.
